The perfect introduction to spoken word. This workshop can be split into four classes (five including a performance night) or organised as an intensive all-day session. The workshop deals with:

Structure and form - How to arrange your poem, rhyme schemes, free verse and contemporary styles.

Performance skills - What to do when you're on the mic. How to engage your audience and hold them throughout your performance.

Finding your voice - Getting in touch with the unique attributes that will help to make you a performer that stands out from the crowd.

Sharing your work - How to get your work out there including social media, self recording, podcasting and the route through live performing.

Performance night - A relaxed performance allowing the consolidation of skills and the chance to informally share work with family and friends.

Blending the Edges:

Creating a Spoken Word/Theatre Show

An intensive one-day workshop taking the creation of a full length spoken word piece from conception to performance. This workshop is intended for intermediate level performers who already have performance experience and are looking to explore full length pieces.

The concept - how do you arrive at the idea you wish to explore? Does the concept have the depth to be explored fully?

Structure - We look at traditional script structures and how they can apply when spoken word is in the equation.

Performance - We explore performance techniques outside the traditional spoken word skillset including spacing, composition and movement.

Staging - How to stage your show, from lighting cues to multimedia, props to audience interaction. We discuss the many options open to enhancing your work.

Making it happen - Having and developing a great idea is one thing, making it happen is another. We provide expertise on funding, touring and DIY options.
